NYAPRS' Pre-Conference Institute Day Programs

Responding to Trauma: Bridging the Gap Between the Evidence and the Experience

While our hearts turned and many of our best efforts in the area of trauma treatment and support have been focused extensively on those touched by tragic events of last September 11th, it is vital that we continue New York's strong ongoing commitment to address the needs of those in trauma recovery from histories of past sexual abuse, violence and abusive institutional care. The presenters will discuss new innovative approaches and research in trauma treatment and support, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by state and local officials, community providers and peer support proponents.

The presenters will describe the essential defining elements of exemplary peer-operated services, review each of the leading peer-operated service models, describe the impact they have had to date on individuals they have served and the local systems in which they have operated and speculate on coming innovations and implications.
