MISLEADING SUTTON PETITION!!

From the National Council on Independent Living:

NCIL has circulated an Action Alert with a petition to mobilize opposition to the confirmation of Jeffrey Sutton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

We have since learned that a similarly worded petition is being circulated by Mr. Richard Edwards that is mobilizing SUPPORT for Sutton. We believe this is a tactic to CONFUSE and MISLEAD people into sending the White House the WRONG MESSAGE.

WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE CONFIRMATION OF JEFFREY SUTTON!!

ADAWatch petition:

"Your help is urgently needed TO PREVENT the confirmation of Jeffrey Sutton to a lifetime seat on the Federal Court. Sutton is expected to receive a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 14th. Hundreds of nonpartisan disability organizations and many more individuals are opposing **Sutton because he is a States Rights activist who has weakened the ADA and other civil rights laws.**"

Mr. Edwards' petition:

"Your help is urgently needed TO ENCOURAGE the confirmation of Jeffrey Sutton to a lifetime seat on the Federal Court. Mr. Sutton is expected to receive a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 14th. Hundreds of nonpartisan disability organizations and many more individuals are opposing Mr. Sutton because of **mis- informed propaganda purporting he is a States Rights activist who has weakened the ADA and other civil rights laws.**"

++ Please do not fall prey to this insidious and misleading effort!

Please join our bipartisan effort to ensure that those who support the right to equal opportunity fill lifetime seats on the Federal judiciary.

With the circulation of this misleading document, it is even more important that all of us let President Bush, the Senate Judiciary Committee and Troy Justesen at the White House know that WE DO NOT SUPPORT THE CONFIRMATION OF JEFFREY SUTTON!

**IMPORTANT** The correct email for Troy Justesen is: Troy_justesen@opd.eop.gov

It is crucial that you review all petitions prior to sending them to ensure that they are the original petitions that OPPOSE the confirmation of Jeffrey Sutton.
