SAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) is pleased to invite you to participate in three interactive satellite videoconferences/webcasts on self-direction for people with mental illnesses.

Models of self-direction are increasingly being used by people with physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, and older adults to maximize consumer choice and control. There is a growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of these approaches.

These training sessions are intended for mental health consumers, State and local mental health planners and program officials, providers, family members, managed care organizations, advocates, and others. They are designed to provide information on self-direction and its relationship to mental health and to explore ways to foster self-direction opportunities for persons with mental illnesses.

There are two ways to participate in the mental health self-direction videoconferences. First, the conferences will be broadcast by satellite to sites across the country. Second, the conferences will be simultaneously webcast and available for viewing on the Internet. To view the webcast connect to the following link that will be active on the dates and times listed above. The webcast of the videoconferences will also be archived for later viewing.
