American Iatrogenic Association opposes the appointment of Dr. Sally Satel

To: Secretary Tommy G. Thompson,
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Dear Secretary Thompson:

The American Iatrogenic Association opposes the appointment of psychiatrist Sally Satel, MD to the advisory board for the Center for Mental Health Services.  Dr. Satel is an outspoken advocate of forced medical "treatments" of Americans who do not seek or want them. Dr. Satel is an opponent of personal responsibility, proposing that so-called addicts have no control over their behaviors. We believe this position is diametric to the U.S. Constitution and American principles, which hold that people are responsible for their behaviors and that they have the right to be unmolested if they have committed no crime. Dr. Satel's positions are profound attacks on the principles of American jurisprudence, and on the rights of Americans. They are closer to the values of Nazi Germany than to those of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson.

It is our position that no American should be forced to undergo involuntary medical treatments, and we oppose Dr. Satel in her practice and advocacy of medicine based on force rather than willing participation by consumers.
