Seroquel in Dysphoric Hypomania
We are examining the use of quetiapine (Seroquel) in the treatment of patients currently experiencing both hypomania and depressive symptoms (dysphoric hypomania).  In this study, after an initial evaluation phase, patients will be instructed to add Seroquel or a placebo to their current stable medication regimen for a period of eight weeks while being monitored by a psychiatrist.
Olanzapine in Bipolar Disorder Exacerbations
We are examining the use of olanzapine (Zyprexa) in the treatment of patients experiencing increases in symptoms of bipolar disorder.  In this study, patients will be instructed to add olanzapine or a placebo to their current stable medication regimen for a period of one week, after which all patients will receive Zyprexa for one week while being monitored by a psychiatrist.
Depakote ER in Bipolar Depression
Depakote has become an established treatment for the many manifestations of bipolar disorder, and preliminary data suggest that Depakote has potential efficacy in the treatment of depressive symptoms. In this study, after an initial evaluation, patients will receive Depakote ER for 8 weeks while monitored by a psychiatrist.
Uridine in Bipolar I Depression
The drug being tested in this study, RG2147, is a type of man-made uridine (uridine is a substance that occurs naturally in the body).  RG2147 may help in the treatment of bipolar depression.  It is not yet approved to be sold by the FDA.  Eligible participants will be instructed to use the study drug or placebo for 6 weeks while monitored by a psychiatrist using clinical and laboratory measures.  The total length of this study is up to 14 weeks.
Lamictal and Abilify in Maintenance Treatment
We are examining the use of Lamotrigine (Lamictal) in combination with Aripripazole (Abilify) in the maintenance treatment of Bipolar Disorder.  In this study, patients will take the combination of Lamictal and Abilify for a period of up to 24 weeks, and then be randomized to either Abilify or placebo while taking open label Lamictal for a period of up to 52 weeks.  To be eligible, participants must have: experienced a recent manic or mixed episode within 3 months, AND not taken Abilify within the past 3 months.
