Safe Harbor News Release: Paxil Lawsuit

NEWS RELEASE

Saturday, 25 August, 2001

Safe Harbor, which is proud to be a sponsor member of Support Coalition International, was contacted on August 24, 2001, by the law firm of Baum, Hedlund, Aristei, Guilford, and Schiavo.

We were told a class action lawsuit was about to be filed and announced against the makers of Paxil and Safe Harbor was asked for direction on what could be offered for the many people who wanted to quit the drug or who need help dealing with the serious withdrawal problems.  The firm was directed to our web site at http://www.AlternativeMentalHealth.com where patients can receive help on Paxil withdrawal and general non-drug assistance.

Safe Harbor was asked to hold off on announcing the lawsuit until the papers had been filed.  The following is from their web site at http://www.baumhedlundlaw.com:

In the first class action of its kind against an antidepressant maker, 35 people who have suffered from severe withdrawal reactions as a result of taking the antidepressant Paxil, filed a lawsuit on August 24 in California Superior Court, LA County, against Glaxo Smithkline Corporation (GSK), formerly known as SmithKline Beecham.

This group represents thousands of Paxil users who have allegedly suffered
complaint, the manufacturer has deliberately failed to warn of their with Mary Schiavo) and Donald Farber of San Rafael, California.

The attorneys have stated, "The scariest part about this is that there are
them, when it's really the Paxil - - and then they take even more and further exacerbate the problem!"
