MINUTES OF THE NAMI SANTA CRUZ COUNTY BOARD MEETING 7/9/01

In Attendance: Hannah Fairchild, Don Hilbert, Betty Mitchell, Desiree
Douville, Judy Williams, Paul O/Brien, Nancy Karges

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

l. Hannah: Reminder: Agenda items to be submitted to her prior to the Friday preceding the regular Board meetings.

MOTIONS CARRIED:

  1. Minutes accepted as stand.
  2. Treasurer's Report approved.
  3. Judy is to be reimbursed for the hotel costs of her attendance at the Sacramento NAMI Membership conference.
  4. The theme for NAMI's October Mental Health Awareness Week observance will be our new public library donation.

REPORTS

  1. Local Mental Health Board: Board is in transition with an infusion of new members. The presentation from the State at the last meeting was
    not of much help.
  2. Speakers: Eric Seiley was well received in June; attendance was low.
Committee meets Friday, 12:00 noon at Crepe Place. Proposed future speakers are Norm Wyman and spokespersons for and against AB1421. Future meetings will begin at 7:00 for a one-half hour business meeting preceding the speaker at 7:30.
  3. Membership: A dues payment envelope will be included with the next newsletter.
  4. Coping Group: Diminished attendance during the second quarter of the year. Is there an absence of referrals from phone answerers, Emeline, or MHRC?
  5. Newsletter: Hannah and Desiree will edit and produce a quarterly newsletter, the next to appear in October, with a deadline for submitted articles on August 21.
  6. Journey of Hope: Betty and Hannah will present NAMI opportunities to students at the appropriate Journey of Hope class.
  7. Library: The public library was very eager to house our collection. The Board will have to provide an annual review and renewal of the collection.
  8. Video: Carol Evans was supportive of Theresa's project. Desiree will supply three videos to be aired on local TV.

HANDOUTS:

1. Judy: Affiliate Tool Kit.
2. Judy: Model agenda
3. Judy: California Wellness Booklet
4. Judy and Desiree: letter from library

ADDITIONAL ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN:

  1. All: Compose letters to address "crises" that arise between Board meetings and require immediate action and submit these to Hannah to sign and deliver.

Note: Starting with these minutes, any "actions to be taken" that are mentioned elsewhere in the minutes will not be included in the "Additional actions to be taken" section.
