CMHS offers Scholarships to Consumers to Attend Alternatives 2001

Thursday July 19, 2001

IMPORTANT NOTICE PLEASE CIRCULATE!!!!!

Dear Friends
We have good news! The Center for Mental Health Services has come through
with monies for a limited number of scholarships to Alternatives 2001, to
be held in Philadelphia August 23-26. We are sending a notice to all the
State Consumer Organizations asking them to nominate two people from their
state to be considered for these scholarships. The reason I am writing is
to let people know of this opportunity and to urge you to be in touch with
your state consumer group about this and other scholarship opportunities to
attend the Alternatives Conference.
For information on Alternatives you can go to our Web site at:
Thanks
Joseph A. Rogers

Frequently asked questions about Alternatives scholarships. . .

Is there any way for the Clearinghouse to nominate me for a scholarship?
No. The Clearinghouse is accepting nominations ONLY from statewide
organizations or state governments.

What should I do to get one of these scholarships?
Contact your state group or government agency and ask them to nominate you.

How can I find the organization responsible for scholarships in my state?
You can check online at:
1. <http://www.mhselfhelp.org/states.html> for statewide consumer groups
2. <http://www.nasmhpd.org/consurdiv.htm> for offices of consumer affairs
3. <http://www.nasmhpd.org/members.htm> for offices of mental health

What do the scholarships cover?
The scholarships include, if needed, conference registration, hotel,
roundtrip transportation, ground transportation, and meals. However, we are
trying to maximize the number of scholarships and therefore will try to give

partial scholarships to people who have found funding for some of their
expenses.

Who is eligible for these scholarships?
The scholarships are available for consumer/survivors residing in the United

States and U.S. territories.
