INTERFAITH
COMPEER NEWS FOR APRIL The Compeer For Kids program is under way.
Referral packets and volunteer packets are now being sent out.
People are excited about the program.
If you know someone who may want to be referred or someone who may want
to volunteer, please tell them about the program and have them call the Compeer
office at 459-6817. Our web site, www.interfaithcompeer.org
also has information about the Compeer For Kids program. In celebration of Compeer Friendship Week, INTERFAITH
COMPEER
will have a Friendship Luncheon. All
volunteers and all friends will be honored.
There are currently four volunteers matched with friends who have been
together for two years or more. Four
more volunteers have been matched for one year or more.
Altogether, there have been 30 volunteers and friends matched since the
program started in July of 1998. Additional
volunteers are in the process of training and being matched.
One family member has recently given feedback to Compeer
about the amazing progress made by her daughter since being matched with a
Compeer volunteer. She related that
Sally (not her real name) is more clear and focused in her thinking and is
becoming more independent with cooking and going out alone to do activities in
the community, as well as going out with her Compeer friend.
Sally has been dealing with her symptoms for nearly 40 years and her
mother believes that the progress she is now making is directly related to
having a Compeer friend. Sally’s
volunteer relates that she truly enjoys the time she spends with Sally.
Last year the two celebrated their birthdays (which are both in the same
month) by going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
They recently took a trip to the San Francisco Zoo and both had a
marvelous time! Wheelchair Drive and Disability Awareness FaireTwin Lakes Church – 2701 Cabrillo College Drive, Aptos Saturday, June 2, 2001 11:00 AM to 4:00PM |
