Children's Mental Health Site of the Month

My Neighbor Came
A Mother shares her son's mental illness
By Joy

Newness came on the wings of spring
Releasing sorrow tucked within
My loved one’s illness challenging
The ordinary day for him
His life time struggle sifting through
In patience with those eyes so blue
My neighbor came and urged my trust
Her glass was full and offered thus
Then robins sang in sweetest calls
I sipped and healed in waterfalls
Unguarded words gave no alarm
As shafts of light searched without harm
A keyless lock opened in place
Banishing my smoke-screen face
My distrust vanished and gave choice
God tutored through my neighbor’s voice
The past I’d held and cradled near
With memories when health was dear
A boy ,a dock, a fishing pole –
A youth, a man, a precious soul
Separated in bridgeless world
And I no match for seeming void
Miles between us I wafted bereft
Calendar’s fell in tear’s regret
Then spring brought sunshine in her cup
Blowing FRESH AIR to open up
That seeming void, where friendship stood
Reached out from Springtime’s  neighborhood
