MINUTES OF THE NAMI SANTA CRUZ BOARD MEETING 5/14/01


In Attendance:   Hannah Fairchild, Don Hilbert, Anna Huskey, Doug
Huskey, Judy Williams, Paul O/Brien, Laurel Wilson


ANNOUNCEMENTS:

l. Judy: Under CARE Program, low-income households are eligible to omit
new rate surcharge for utilities.
2. Judy:  NAMI phone line sometimes requires extended assistance. Diana
Laws(?) at the County is in charge of locating missing persons in town.

MOTIONS CARRIED:

1. Minutes accepted as stand.

REPORTS
 
1. Membership: A sign-up sheet will be presented to members at the next
general meeting. Judy has corresponded with NAMI California, 
complaining
of dues policy and learning that the state may alter its procedures in 
a
way that will comply with our interests.
2. Newsletter: The next newsletter will appear in August.  Community
Connections will be asked to include in the mailing an envelope for 
dues
collection.  Board members are invited to submit contributions to the
Newsletter.
3. Treasurer: Report was submitted and explained.
4. Speakers: No response from Linda Bradley.  The new director of 
County
Mental Health is not yet in place.  Will try for Eric Seiley for
6/20/01.
5. MHRC: Laurel asks for use of the Nate Evans fund to a project
involving the purchase of a video camera and the training of a staff
member to produce a video of family members (Anglo and Hispanic) aimed
at educating Mental Health workers.  Laurel will write up a proposal.
6. Dan Weisburd Affair: No action as of yet.

Old Business:

1. Chardonnay: Club O'Neal would be more affordable. Anna will
investigate and report. A Beach Bonfire might be considered for 
October.

   ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN:
      
1. Don: Call Carol Saffen
2. Don: Try for Eric Seiley for June speaker.
3. Hannah:  Discuss with Dominican a display of NAMI Newsletter and
flyer.
4. Judy: Investigate billing envelopes with Kinkos.
5. Judy: Attend conference of local affiliates' membership committee
people.
6. Anna: Ask Bonnie Schell about including a consumers' column in the
Newsletter.
7. Anna: Investigate the Club O'Neal option.
8. Laurel: Write up the proposal for the Nate Evans Fund project.
9. Hannah: Man the booth at the Twin Lakes Disability Fair.
10. Judy: Supply Hannah with materials for the above.
